mobileZIPcodes
Look up ZIP codes on your iPhone or iPod touch
Translations: I’m looking for some people who could help me translating ZIPcodes.app to other languages than English – if you’re willing to spend a few minutes translating some phrases please send me a short message! Thx!!
Overview
mobileZIPcodes is a small tool that allows you to browse ZIP codes and the corresponding city/state/district/country data on your iPhone or iPod touch.
As you don’t require to be online while looking up the ZIP code information, it is in particular useful for iPod touch users without the ability to use EDGE on the way.

I’d love to – but I haven’t found a free and legal-to-use data source for french ZIPcodes yet; so if you know one, please give me a short hint and I’ll do my very best to add the french data.

Dezember 11th, 2007 at 16:42
do you have any idea when Dutch zip codes will be available?
Dezember 11th, 2007 at 17:39
@all: I’d love to add all the countries you mentioned — but I need legal and free-to-use data sources to gain the necessary ZIP code data.
So if you’d like to see the ZIP code data of your country included in ZIPcodes.app, please support me by giving me information on where to find such sources (only free-to-use and legal ones please, I don’t want to add unlegal content to my application).
Thx!

Dezember 14th, 2007 at 03:23
Wonderful app! Canada would be a most useful addition to me… I wonder if you might be planning on adding it?
I noted you quoted geocoder.ibegin.com as your source for the US zip codes, I checked that site and it appears one can access Canadian postal codes there as well.

voxsola (14.14.07, 03:23):
Hi! Yes, I’ve found that too, but the problem is, the whole Canadian ZIP codes database would be around 56 MB, which would be too large for download and would overstrain the iPhone while browsing or searching – so I have to find a way how I can shrink the data to an acceptable size without loosing too much information.
Dezember 14th, 2007 at 12:29
@jowell and kvyanh: pls have a look at my comment about data and providing possible sources! Thx!

Thanks for your reply re: the Canadian postal codes.
Just a thought… would it be possible to perhaps break the database into 2 parts? Maybe Western Canada and Eastern Canada? Just wondered if that might help with the size… if one loaded both it would still amount to the same 59mb, however I noticed that a couple of the dictionary modules I have for weDict are approx 24mb and 29mb respectively as well and it all seems to work.
I’m using this on an iPod Touch 16GB though.
Dezember 20th, 2007 at 22:41
Hi Andi,
I’ve sent to you the Spanish Zip database. Have you received it?
Dezember 20th, 2007 at 22:45
superg3 (20.20.07, 22:41):
Yes – I’m working on it.
Dezember 22nd, 2007 at 16:00
Like everybody, I find your app and its integration with Maps & Routes one of the best things in iPhone. Apple should offer you good money to build it into their standard software package & develop databases for many other countries, like Brazil. If you need this particular database, let me know.
Dezember 25th, 2007 at 19:57
Thanx for your nice app

Norvegen ist da!! Geil!
DANKE SCHÖN ANDI!!!!
Januar 5th, 2008 at 18:45
Have installed Norway and there is something wrong with the norwegian special characters æ ø å.
Per example the village Kyrksæterøra is shown as Kyrksíterùra, and therefore the Googl Map search isn’t working either….
Januar 5th, 2008 at 19:32
geircito (5.05.08, 18:45):
Sorry, the file had a wrong encoding – should be fixed now.
Please re-install the norway database (delete the old one with the red buttons, save changes, restart and re-install/download norway with the green button).
Januar 5th, 2008 at 20:24
I must say: GREAT rapid support!!!!!!
Working now!!
Januar 6th, 2008 at 19:01
way if Canada was made into two parts such as western and eastern ??
Januar 6th, 2008 at 22:09
It could even be split into 3 parts:
B.C. to Manitoba – Western Canada
Ontario, Quebec and all other provinces – Eastern Canada
Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut – The Territories
Just a suggestion… I’d be happy to respond with a donation if it could be made to work as I do realize it would mean “extra work”.
Januar 9th, 2008 at 18:52
Can you honestly please just basically make a second .app, designed strickly for Canadians? Trust me, we don’t mind downloading a 50MB file… We REALLY want this. Already, I see by reading the comments, there are at least 5 people asking for it – including myself.
Please do us all a favor, and consider basically making a second .app strickly for Canadians.
I don’t understand how the Canadian postal codes can be any larger than USA zip codes…. USA is over 10x the population of Canada… What’s up with that? And postal codes are only one digit/letter longer than zip codes.
Please get back to us about that one. We’d really appreciate it.
Januar 19th, 2008 at 15:48
hi any updates on India
Januar 24th, 2008 at 17:11
Dear Andi,
Thank you so much for your great applications.
I would like to ask you, can you please add also Czech republik?
All postcodes are on web site of Czech Post Office and you can use also English version:
http://www.cpost.cz
You can use also this link straight to postcodes:
http://www.cpost.cz/jetspeed/p.....p;type=PSC
Thank you very much

Hi Andi,
Great app!! Here is a link to Philippine ZIP Codes
http://home.pacific.net.ph/~khoe/zipcode.html
Hope this will suffice for you to create the Philippine data.
Thanks
Februar 2nd, 2008 at 13:35
Hi Andi,
bzgl. 1.1.3, bin mal über den Code gegangen, eigentlich müsstest nur die hardcodierten Pfade erstzen:
[NSHomeDirectory() stringByAppendingPathComponent: @"Media/ZIPCodes"]
Btw, könnte für dich testen, hab meine Applikation (Locations) jetzt auf 1.1.3 laufen, leider lässt sich der Code vom SVN nicht ohne weiteres kompilieren
Gruss von nem Namensvetter
Andreas
P.S.: Tolles Programm!

Hi very usefull app. May you search for brazilian zip codes please? I”ll thank you in advance Guilherme
Februar 20th, 2008 at 06:17
Awesome app, however it is missing Canada. I know it was been discussed about the size being too large, but after looking at the data set it seem like most of it is just duplicate data. For example from
T2S 0A1 – T2S 3G2 (555 records) the data is same:
600707|T2S 0A1|Calgary|Alberta|AB|D|51.018599999999999|-114.0689
…
601261|T2S 3G2|Calgary|Alberta|AB|D|51.018599999999999|-114.0689
….
I don’t know how the db is implemented, however isn’t it possible to reduce all of the records so that all the postal_code points to the same location in the db?
And by looking at this data file im sure you could trim off most of those 9s at the end of the number.
And AB = Alberta

Kenny (16.16.08, 07:51):
That shouldn’t cause any problems – it just ignores a missing network connection.
Juni 4th, 2008 at 00:21
otto (27.27.08, 07:18):
Hi!
Sorry – I’ve no information about any malfunctions between Cydia and ZIPcodes.
Could you provide me some addition information about that (firmware version etc)?
Thx!
Juni 4th, 2008 at 00:22
Uuji Yi (16.16.08, 13:54):
Hi!
France and Spain are already included – so thx for your offer.
If you’ve got some other countries, not available yet, please let me know.
A.
Juni 8th, 2008 at 16:00
please include philippines. We are in top 10 celfone users in the world. Apple did not release yet iphone in asia but millions of filipinos are using iphone already.
Juni 9th, 2008 at 18:29
culver (8.08.08, 16:00):
As I’ve mentioned some times ago:
I can only provide ZIPcode information I’m able to find or been told by users – and that is free to use and accessible in a acceptable way (no ’search only’-pages etc.)
So if you like to see any country not included yet – please don’t just ask or demand for it — but give me some information where to find it, and I’ll try to get the permission to include the data into ZIPcodes.
Juni 12th, 2008 at 02:59
hi andi. Here is the link of zip code of the philippine places http://zip-codes.philsite.net Thank you in advance. You’re great. Ciao!

Hello!
Great program. One little problem, iPhone 2.0 settings, I have turned all off except USA, but all counties still show up. Any suggestions, or is this just a feature that is unimplented as of yet?
Thanks!

Dali (12.12.08, 14:11):
There’s an error with the database of Netherlands in ver. 1.0.
An update to version 1.1 – which will fix it – is already in review and should be available at the App Store soon (hopefully…).

Hallo Andi,
is there any possibility to find a ZIP-Code by town and street, in a town with many different ZIP-Codes?
Thanks for your work!
Juli 14th, 2008 at 20:22
Jay (13.13.08, 19:01):

Juli 15th, 2008 at 07:53
Andi (13.13.08, 18:43):

Thanks Andi, but I can’t. Using T-Mobile on 1.1.4.
Juli 18th, 2008 at 05:04
Hi, I have your app on my Ipod touch, it’s great. Some constructive comments:
I have noticed an anomaly when looking up Australian postcodes:
If I were to lookup: Australia\By Names\Australian Capital Territory\Scullin – I would find that Scullin’s post (ZIP) code is 2614, which is correct.
However, If I were to do the reverse: Australia\By ZIP Codes\26..\2614 – I find this post code is associated with Weetangera – which is also correct, but the app does not cross-reference all those cities/suburbs that share the 2614 code – there are about 5 in total for 2614.
The above situation exists for many other codes that are shared across multiple cities/suburbs.
Perhaps this could be an enhancement in a revised version.
Regards,
Ian
Juli 19th, 2008 at 18:03
Great app! But where is the preference screen? Is it for iPhone only?
Juli 21st, 2008 at 13:32
Thank you for your great app! I have just donated something to your Paypal account.
Now here’s my feature request: could you add the province codes to the Italian database? They are required for mail in Italy. The Italian Post gives this example:
MARIO ROSSI
VIA APPIA NUOVA 287
00100 ROMA RM
Where RM is the province code.
Juli 24th, 2008 at 17:46

Nice useful program, but you forgot to include the zip codes for the United States Virgin Islands in the USA database.
August 16th, 2008 at 13:23
When i try to use Canada, the app closes. Is there an update to correct this problem?
August 17th, 2008 at 15:53
Hi
If there is a new update for zipcodes, for information, Swansea UK is in the county of West Glamorgan, not Dyfed as it says in the zipcodes.
Thanks
August 20th, 2008 at 00:05
just installed – very nice and useful app – one small correction [one always checks one's city first!] – the name of the city in China with zip code 710000 is Xi’an not Ian.
August 26th, 2008 at 21:13
Love the app, but confidence a bit undermined that my own postcode, DE22 does not appear, Derby in UK.
Our post code has been DE22 for many years, but used to be DE3, which does appear. I wonder if the source you used is well out of date?

A couple years ago the Postal Service changed our zip and now our development is recognized by that zip.
Old zip & town: Dumfries, VA 22026
Correct zip & town: Montclair, VA 22025
Oktober 9th, 2008 at 22:13
love the application! Would be awesome if you could get Canada to work though. That would make my job much easier.
